Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the cost of therapy?
My fee is $175 for individual 50 minute sessions. I accept cash, check, credit cards, and HSA cards. I am not in-network for insurance companies but can provide you with a receipt of services. If you have out of network benefits, you will be able to submit the receipt to your insurance company for partial reimbursement.
  • How long do I need to be in therapy?
Everyone comes to counseling with their own unique needs and concerns. The number of sessions to address the presenting problem can range significantly. Clients report feeling much better in as little as 1-2 sessions while others can take longer. I use an approach that attempts to be efficient with our time working towards your goals. As we near the end of counseling, I may suggest we meet less frequently (every other week or once a month). This often helps someone ensure they are doing well on their own while slowly removing the support.
  • What if I'm nervous about the first appointment? What should I expect?
Most people coming to therapy are a little nervous about their first visit. I've found some of the nerves come from questions like, "Will I be judged?" "Will he understand me?" or "Will anyone be able to help me?" Our first session will begin with reviewing some of the expectations for working together and a thorough discussion around confidentiality. There's also plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions about the process of counseling or my professional background. This conversation is often helpful in establishing trust as it sets up what you can expect of me. Most of the first session will be a discussion around what has brought you to counseling. As you tell me about yourself, you'll find that I come from a place of wanting to understand rather than judgment. Part of the process to help me understand will include asking some questions about the problem and your background. I won't push you to talk about anything you're not ready to discuss. You set the pace and the content of what becomes the focus of counseling. Lastly, we will collaboratively set goals for counseling and establish how to achieve them. This outlines how counseling will be able to help you. Many clients report feeling better at the end of the first session because they feel supported, developed a plan for improvement, and a renewed sense of hope.
